Johnson V4 Crossflow Throttle return

Hello. On my 1978 Johnson the throttle doesn't seem to be returning properly. At first, I thought it was the timer base. Is the throttle supposed to return to the idle stop screw and the timer base back to its starting point? No difference if the cable is off or on hopefully I'm explaining this correctly. When I pull back on the remote lever the idle doesn't go down/

Probably dried up grease under the timer base gunking it all up.

Earlier posting said that the grease has been dealt with.------The cable normally pulls it back against the idle stop.

So, I took apart the throttle linkage and it was filthy! I cleaned ALL of the dried up stick black "gunk" from all the plastic bushings and metal contact surfaces. Reassembled the linkage/spring assembly and then it started to rain! Everything seemed to be moving much better. I didn't use any kind of grease, though, should i have? Should the throttle assembly return all the way to the idle stop, and at the same time the timer base solely on spring pressure with the control cables off? Because mine does not take it all the way back. I hooked the cables back up, but started raining so I'll have to wait until it lets up to start the motor

I use white lithium grease.

I posted yesterday asking what type of lubrication I should use on the new timer base that I just installed. The manual species moly lube for the brass ones, but my new one is all plastic.
As for idle speed. I'm not sure of the exact rpm because I didn't look at the gauge, but I'd say between 800-900 rpm. I will start it tomorrow and report back. Thanks!
