Johnson TD 20 (Maintenance) Parts Source?

I'm seeking some basic "maintenance" parts for a 1948 Johnson SeaHorse TD 20.

Short list: carburetor kit, gaskets, float, rubber & plastic parts from prop assembly?

I've read past threads about some of this stuff and the how-to's ? wondering if any OEM parts are commercially available? and sources?

I do know a parts motor will solve some of your issues, they can be found at AOMCI.org I do not think any of those parts are available new..

Searching the AOMCI site can yeild valuable information on these older motors. There are links for information on carb work, how to make a new float from a hardware store cork, etc. I dont have the links with me, but will try to post them later today. For gaskets you will need to learn to cut your own. Auto parts stores have gasket material of different thicknesses and you can trace out the shape from the old gasket. Use a razor knife to cut out the shape and if you look around you should be able to find a set of hole punches to cut out the various screw holes and openings. I made myself a float for a TD20 and found some fibre washers at the hardware store that worked for some of the screw holes. The motor ran very well when I was done. Time, patients, and careful work can be more valuable than a box of new parts on these motors. Good Luck with your project.

Sea-Way Marine. They supplied me very well with my needs on my 1941 HD-20. I bought new pistons, rings, rods and a crank. Yes I have a block with all new innards. I also got the gaskets I needed and condensors too, so thet did me well.

Thanks guys, some great places to start. I did print off quite a few threads like the one about making a float. I'm told the motor ran fine when it was last put away... some 40 years ago. Hoping this is more of a matter of cleaning than fixing but the internal varnish is thick and the gaskets are coming off in pieces. Made me hesitant about digging deeper, I suppose I just wanted to know what I was up against and a kick in the tail. Now I have the gasket material and a long weekend, we'll see how it goes.

If you cant get the carb top gasket to come out right i have a tracing of it and could try scanning it and emailing it to you. Also Gunk brand makes a really nice carb cleaning "dip" that comes in a gallon can with a lil basket. It should desolve any varnish in the carb if soaked 6-24 hours. it will clean up all the little tubes, needles, fuel pecock parts, just dont use it on rubber parts. rinse with hot water and blow dry. you can also pour it in the fuel tank if you need to clean it out too.

i have a 1958 TD-20. i have fuel "spiting" from the hole in the center of the "Y" between the needle valve and the fuel line. how do i prevent/fix this or is this normal? the motor will only start and run in the "fast" position. if you drop the throttle to start or slow it dies out. i have been unable to find any information on the rebuild kit for this year other than ill have to make the gaskets. i have a 1957 JOHNSON 5.5 HP OUTBOARD MODEL CD-14. will the needle packing and various other gaskets work anywhere in this carb?
