Hi, I have a 3hp Johnson seahorse that i've had standing for about 8 years. When I first bought it about 9 years ago, I changed the coils, points and condensers as they were definitely dead. I managed to get it running but only for a short time. I then never had the time to play with it until recently when I took it apart to clean out the water pipes as they were blocked completely. I put it all back together and today tried to start it. I couldn't remember which way the spark leads went so tried it both ways and it still wouldn't fire up. I checked for a spark and there was nothing from either lead. I removed the flywheel to have a look at everything and the coils look fine, no cracks and clean. so, what am I doing wrong?

Clean the points. Likely chalked up a bit from sitting for that many years...
For point of reference, the FRONT coil fires the TOP cylinder.

What motor do you have (model number would be good)? It might help to know what happened when you ran it way back when. Did it lock up, for example? (possibly hot running because of a cooling blockage).

When you dress the points, you might check the assembly of remaining magneto parts. Wire to coil connection, for example.
