Hi Guy's,
It's been some time so let me bring you up to speed. I got my new head gasket installed with 120 inch/LBs torque, it has new ignition coils capacitors plugs NGK B6S, not Champions but new, got the Champions today. I did the timing with an ohm meter. I did not replace the points as they look new but I have a new set, This first tank of fuel in the 6 gal pressure tank is mixed to 24 - 1 , the thing is for this five gal of fuel the 2 cycle oil is just that with no TCW3 rating, next tank. When I got it all assembled it started on the first pull, it Idles fine, I could run the RPMs up fine or much better then last time, I thought I was ready for the water to run and adjust at high speed. Heres the thing and this tells me that something is still not right, I pulled the plugs and they are still wet. Points are at .020 plugs at .030 ... Am I just over thinking this or over looking something? I printed copies of the links you guys sent, all good info. I put in the Champions today, thinking about going over the timing again tomorrow, it's going in on Sunday.

sounds like you have it dialed in ok, but you need to test it on the water. keep an eye on the color of the plugs. a bit on the black side isnt such a bad thing. ( the ngk plugs can cause grief tho)

As nwcove said, put the champion plugs in it and run it on the water.

Took it out today, Cold start first pull choke, got to the chock before it could stall. Low Idle great, high speed great. I had an extra 350 LBS in the boat and ran 8 MPH. Not bad, I'm happy!!!!!! Thanks again.

Use ONLY TC-W3 rated oil, Wayne. Don't worry about wet plugs; the ignition always stops before the engine stops pumping fuel. It is normal to have wet plugs.

What Champion plugs did you put in her? QD-19 originally called for J4J, now J4C, but many have found the J6C better for low speed/trolling. Either should be gapped at .030".

+1. I used to have an old QD-22 and ran Champion J6C plugs with 24:1 mix and never had an issue. It may smoke a bit in the test tank, but there will be very little once you're on the open water. Great little motors. About he only problem hey have are the clutch dogs, which can become worn over time, but they're otherwise light weight, bulletproof little motors that are very strong for their size.

I'm using J6C plugs, I will be trolling and running the no wake zones allot. I'm down to E on the fuel, I bought some Pensoil 2 cycle with a TCW3 rating for the next tank at 24-1. I do have an issue about the oil on the water, don't care for it but I guess that is normal. Smoke? yes at low speed, not to bad. What maid me smile was when passing a friendly family on the river I pointed at the motor and said, 1958 and the mans Son goes WOW! I'm very pleased. I have received so much good information from this forum and all who contributed to it. I'm not a mechanic just have a basic understanding of how things work and you all have taken me to the next level. Thank you

If Your worried about the oil on the water, Go with a full synthetic oil mix.
It is biodegradable and smokes less.
Good Luck with Your motor.
