Howdy, Zach.

Welcome to iboats. :)

That was a really good engine but it has no collector value. There are many still in regular service.

Use her and give her good care and she will be around for another 50 years.

Re: johnson sea horse 1959

I restore/repaint many of these old motors, mostly as a hobby. If I count the number of hours I put into the motors, I probably get about $1-2 an hour for my time:). But I'm retired and not looking to get rich off of them, I just enjoy working on them. If you had the motor professionally repainted, you wouldn't even come close to recovering the cost of the paint job alone, not to mention the tune-up parts. There are some rare old motors which you can restore and make money on, but not this particular one.

Of course you can. Put it on Craigslist or eBay.

Do not try to sell it here. Our rules forbid that.

That motor's value is as a service motor, not a collector item. They made thousands of them and there are more motors than collectors, which keeps collector value down. However, folks are always looking for good running, reliable small outboards. I had a 1960 10hp last year - got $250 for it on CL...

I bought a 1959 10hp for $125, it needed water pump ,coils, plugs and wires.
Suppose I could sell it for $200 but then I'd still need another one to replace it.
