I purchased a used 1987 Chris Craft Cavalier. It has a Johnson 115 Sea Horse with a CMC PT-130 Tilt/trim. It appears to me that its not mounted exactly on the center of the transom, just a little to the right side. Im new at boating, just thought it should be in the middle. Very nice boat and runs well. Any input would be appreciated!

they may have need to put it slightly off due to CMC. To install CMC, you have to take motor off boat and re-mount onto bracket. Bracket sits back a few inches and sometimes steering cables won't reach or fit.

Thanks, just wondering if it would make the boat lean or "pull".

probably not as much as you would think.
Have you ever used a canoe with side-mounted electric trolling motor? You toe in the prop a little and never even notice the pull.

I took the boat out today for the 2nd time. I noticed when I put it in reverse the engine swings up. Is there a way to prevent this? I though it would be locked to keep from swinging. The CMC did not swing, it was the tilt on the 1979 Johnson 115 HP. Any ideas how to prevent this?

Re: Johnson Outboard and CMC PT-130 Electric Hydraulic Tilt and Trim

I have done a lot of work on my project since October, this Chris Craft 16 footer. I notice when I start at wot a lot of water is being "thrown " upward between the motor and transom. As I trim the motor the water appears to go away. The boat starts off fine and planes quickly, but this water is annoying. It just does not seem normal to throw water up at starting. Would a older propeller cause this? The prop that's on is older, not sure if its aluminum or SS. Its a 3 blade and the boat came with a extra 4 blade that's black, I don't think its SS or aluminum. Any ideas what may be causing this. Its a 1979 Johnson 115HP Sea Horse with a CMC PT 130 trim.

Probably due to a couple of things. #1, it probably is too low on the transom (too much lower unit in the water). Once you get up on plane, it rises out of the water and problem is gone. #2, the setback from the transom due to the CMC puts the motor back further into the water rising up behind the boat at less than planning speed. Another reason for mounting it higher. I seriously doubt the propeller is causing it.
