I have installed a CDI 113-6292K 1 power pack on my ?02 90hp Johnson and am trying to set the timing per CDI instructions. I am using a remote starter switch to crank the engine. I have disconnected the port timing sensor Tan and White/Black wires and grounded the Tan wire. When I crank the engine, the idle timing is 5? BTDC rather than 5? ATDC and the WOT timing is 30? BTDC rather than 20?. I suspect that it because Quick Start has advanced the timing 10?. Grounding the White/Black wire produces identical results.
My questions are:
1. What good could grounding the Tan wire do? Isn?t it the overheat wire? Isn?t the White/Black wire the 105? wire?
2. If Quick Start operates for 5-10 seconds after the engine starts regardless of engine temp and the engine is never started while it is cranking how could this technique ever work?
