1996 150 first problem ever:

misfiring at 4000 - 4200 RPM's starts well ran good @ first plane 3000 -3200 RPM's.

I've checked gas no water in seperator.
Did Alcohol check as well 8-10%
put 2 different innition packs on one with coils and wires one just the pack (used of course) just to see.

Someone mentioned optical ignition sensor could be bad then someone said when that goes nothing works - any feedback here? I have one on order.

Maybe clogged high jet? How do you check that?

any help

take it for a run, with the cowl off. take an induction timing light that clip on the plug wire. get to missing. the check each plug wire for constant spark. here's some elect test, several pages find your engine. http://www.boatpartstore.com/page30.asp

Thanks for reply

you directed me to test for older engines I have a 1996 ocean runner.

Can these wire tests be done for them as well.

Re: Johnson oceanpro 150 missfiring

thanks agian for the reply - found it. too complicated for me to figure and not the right equipment.

Just trying to validate what I was told.

By the way ran it again tonoght ran the best it has run in a ling time then 4000 RPMs miss and then ran poor.

the miss is not constant misses runs misses runs.

But again too complicated - I let you know how I make out.

I've got a 1995 150 looper. Had a simular problem. Gradually it got worse. Power pack was the culprit.

Re: Johnson oceanpro 150 missfiring

I am having the same problem on my 1996 175 Oceanpro. I have not had time to do some test, but I am pretty sure its the power pack. The motor will run good for about an hour, and then it would start running bad. I took the boat out Sunday and I had no problems. I ran it for about an hour and then sat on the beach for an 3 hours. I thinking the power pack had time to cool off before I returned to the lauch. Let me know what you find out.

Re: Johnson oceanpro 150 missfiring

all

I put in two different power packs already - I doubt they were both bad.

Played with the eye last night just moving it in place and boat ran like brand new. then @ 4000 misfire and ran poor again.

Having the sensor changed - hoping that's it.
