johnson lower unit

I have a 1993 johnson 200. I was running along fine and heard a noise that sounded like cavitation. I shut it down and it wouldnt crank back. I can turn the motor by hand but hear a clinking grinding noise in the lower unit. I am trying to take it off but I think the linkage has me. How do I disconnect the linkage?

If you're tearing into the lower unit the best thing to do is get an OEM Factory Service Manual.
