My Johnson Sailmaster w/ extra long shaft(25"),
will kick up in reverse with the tilt lever in locked position. It's OK at low RPM's, but if I goose it, the prop will come out of the water.
Has anyone had a similar problem, if so, what was the fix?
Thanks, Bdavis

If you try to raise it manually with it locked, you will see if either the mechinism that holds it in place is either broken or worn. If you can raise it freely, it is probably broken. If it starts to lock and breaks free with more lift, then it is the "Jaws" that hold on to the bar, that are worn. In either case. you would need to replace it.
