I have a Johnson Javelin that I believe to be a '56 30hp. Maroon & white, 6 volt starting system. Serial # on freeze plug is 1397635. Can't find the model #. Any ideas?

Re: Johnson Javelin

Thanks for the reply Rex--that was going to be one of the questions--should I have all the solenoids, starter, etc. changed to 12 volt.

I finally found the id tag. Looks like
RJE 18 E. Anybody know what the difference is between the RDE & RJE models is? Is the E at the end for electric start or a revision?

Actually the motor ran fine when I "abandonded" it about 15 yrs ago. It is on a 15' (I think) Feathercraft. This is the rig that I grew up with, fish, ski (really), etc.. I ran it with a 12V battery when it was last run. That starter will really spin with 12V <G>.

I guess that nostalgia is setting in. The motor will still turn over so I think I could get it running without too much trouble. Think I might try for the oldest boat on the lake award.
