I have a 1980 Johnson 70hp. The motor is very reliable and don't have any known problems. What I would like to know is there any site on the net that would have any drawings of this motor that I could look at and possible get information on regular maintainence, settings ect. I have just put three new plugs in, and set the gap at 30thou. I don't know what gap should be and where I bought plugs from wasn't sure but thought they should be 30thou. Engine seems to start and run fine with this setting. I read all posts and have learnt much from this board but never see any problems directly relating to my motor so when I think perhaps I should change filters ect. do not know what or where they are are my engine. My general knowledge on outbords is getting better and better but I need to know more specifically on my motor. Manuals are very expensive over here so can not afford one just yet. One day perhaps somebody should try and calculate the dollars all you guys have saved people by generously offering help in this forum. MUST BE MILLIONS. Thank you all null

Re: Johnson help

Ken,

I would order a manual from Clymer. Their website is www.clymer.com. To start with: change the lower unit fluid. Use OMC Hi Vis. Make sure you change the fill and drain plug seals also. Change the fuel filter if it has one. It would be located in the fuel line between where the fuel connector hooks up to the engine and the fuel pump-under the cowl. Remove the prop and lubricate the prop shaft. If in doubt on the last time the
water pump was serviced-change it or have it done. When done-ENJOY!

Hey Ken,
If you would like the original factory service and owners manuals, check Ken Cook Co. Marine Publications. They have a web site.

G'luck & c/6

hooty

OMC manuals are much beter then Clymer or Seloc , Try to get a factory manual. Factory Merc manuals are great to, don't know why so many people say the aftermarket are better ?

I'm with ****, and if you'll get the factory parts book, they have great exploded views of everything.

c/6

hooty
