Johnson help

Posted a while back about my 98 Johnson venom stalling when putting it in gear.. Well here's the new question.. Seems that the problem lies with the gear handle, is that possible? seems like sometimes it won't go into reverse without givin it some extra pressure.. sometimes if i find the right position when putting it in gear it pops right up on plane with no problem. Other times as soon as i put it in gear it shuts down.. and sometimes when i put it in neutral after a run it revs real funny and doesn't want to kick into neutral.. What might be causing this and can i adjust it myself?
oh yeah, it has a hotfoot..

See the attached picture. I bet I have fixed 20 of these for being broken/worn...

am i to guess this is behind the shift interrupter switch?? is it removeable(i have no access to welding) is the part replaceable?

i checked this part and it looks good... Any other ideas?
