Hi,
I think 99% of all videos of 35Hps/30/25 hps running both on the hard and on the water seem to have the front black air guard cover off with the carburettor inlet showing uncovered.
Does leaving that cover offIMG_1615.jpg improve performance (is the black air cover making the engine slightlyy starved)?
Does leaving it off do much to heighten the risk of foreign particles entering the engine?

Thanks
Black cover is seen in photo

I can't speak for "improved" performance, but the air silencer was removed on the later models.
I have a 1988 30hp w/o the air silencer and it runs fine.

Ok thanks,
i agree ive seen the video you posted of it running.
Il be leaving the air silencer at home next trip. It makes for observing the carburettor/solenoid etc easier too
