Johnson 9.9 hp outboard loud running!

hello my outboard is very loud when it runs. it starts up great runs great but is very loud compared to similar motors i have used. does anyone know what possible causes would make my motor run loud and if i can fix this. thanks.

Did u just buy it??? Did it all of the sudden start up loud one day??? Loud like someone took a muffler off it all the sudden??? explain...

everything is intact on the motor. it just is very loud running. compared to my other 9.9 johnson of an earlier year and my 15 evinrude of an earlier year this motor just sounds alot louder when running. i am wondering if it has to do with the pistons, rings, or anything else that could cause this. does anyone have any suggestions. as far as ruling stuff out the carb has been replaced, the fuel pump is new and the lower gear oil has been replaced. everything is in working order.

Did it just start doing this? That was essentially the question the other member asked. Is this a new outboard to you?

Where is the noise the loudest as you listen around the outboard? What sort of sound is it?

You have to give us some more details. Then, we can probably offer some suggestions.

everything is intact on the motor. carb was rebuild, lower gear oil changed, new fuel pump. just running loud compared to my 9.9 evinrude and johnson of an earlier year. was thinking if it could be something to do with scratched pistons or bad rings. any suggestions would be helpful i cant figure it out. would a motor just be louder than comparable motors for no reason. thanks.

We read that message. The questions still remain. No, it is not normal for it to be so loud. The answers to our questions may well help us figure out why it is so loud.

Repeating what you've already answered won't help.

Did this just start or has it always been loud? Is it a new outboard to you? Where does the noise appear to be coming from?

New questions:

Have you recently done any work that required removal of the lower unit?
Is the noise louder if you remove the cowling?
Is it noisy just when run out of water, or is the noise the same when it's running on the boat in the water?

sorry about the reposts, i was unsure if the first ones when through. anyways, it has always been loud since i have owned it about 6 months. the motor is running fine other than that. exhaust tube is sealed. same noise with or without cowling. Same noise in and out of water.
