Motor is 1980 9.9 Sailmaster.
Replaced both coils.
One had bad wire, since there had been 5 upgrades since 1980, replaced both coils.
Manual says coil resistance should be 450-500 ohms. New coil shows about 25 ohms.
What changed in the coil design? What should the new coil resistance be? Is it OK to use one new coil and one old coil?

584561 is the current number. If both new coils read the same,I would think you are OK.What problem are you having ?

Just a thought. Is 450 - 500 ohms the resistance of the secondary (HT) winding but 25 ohms the reistance of the primary

the designs could be many, but usually ,the way they attached to the powerpack or were grounded. The basics were the same as long as the coils were for the cd ignition ,which you have

No problem, yet. Trying to avoid that.

One part curiosity: What is the difference between the current energy generation gadget and a traditional coil?

2nd part prevention: When upgrading one coil should the other coil be upgraded at the same time?

3rd part testing: The original coil resistance for testing was 450-500 ohms. The current gadget is much less. Is there a correct resistance figure for the new design, or is it so much different that a different test is required?
