Johnson 9.5hp Fuel Pump?

Hi all. I have a Johnson 9.5hp outboard, which I believe to be a 1969 9R69S (ID plate is missing from motor) and I think I need a new fuel pump. When running, especially anywhere above idle, the motor will die unless I keep pumping the primer bulb... then it will run all day long. If I stop pumping, about 20-30 seconds later as I mentioned the engine dies. Prime bulb again and starts no problem. I am new to outboards, but from my research on these forums, I believe I have a faulty fuel pump. Any confirmations or suggestions would be appreciated.
The real problem I have is that I have been unable to locate a new fuel pump on iboats or elsewhere, oem part # 382224. Does anyone have any suggestions with this problem?

Any help is much appreciated, thank you.

Is there no aftermarket version of this pump by sierra or other, or am i stuck looking for a used one? some of the pumps i've seen listed look identical but are not referenced for this motor.

Does this in fact sound like the problem though?

Sounds like it is the problem. I don't want to lead you to buy one that might not fit, but it looks like an 18-7350 might work. The only difference is the small hose fitting comes out at a different angle. If you could re-route the hose without interferrence, it would work. It's kind of close quarters in there.

I've used the Sierra 18-7350 that F_R mentioned with no problems. The current OMC/BRP pump number is 397839. There are also rebuid kits if you wanted to restore what you have.

Check that the gasket between the engine and the fuel pump is airtight and that the screen in the intake of the pump is clear before you buy a new pump.

I would strongly recommend against buying a used fuel pump.

Re: Johnson 9.5hp Fuel Pump?

Thanks for the help guys. The Sierra 18-7350 looks like my choice then. Ezeke, I want to check the screen you mentioned first, but I'm worried that if I unscrew the filter cap that it will not seal back up without a new gasket. Is that normally a problem? Also, does the sierra kit include all gaskets and the screen that are required? Thanks again.

The new pump comes with the cap and screen already installed.
