Johnson 70HP 1979 Charging Voltage

My Charging voltage is 15.9 volts running at idle.<br /><br />using a Fluke 77 multimeter I have 2 of them both read that same.....<br /><br />Any ideas thank you.

Sirius,<br /><br />I believe that is normal for an unregulated system.

I have a 83 75 hp evinrude, my voltage was running about 18 volts and concerned me, i replaced rectifier, small metal can with 3 wires on right side of motor, only brought voltage down to about 16-17, iam also concerned about this and would like to find out how high is to high<br /><br />jim
