Johnson 70 for a short transom

Hi,

I have a old DC(Vator 15 GL) that has a short transom, the current engine is a Johnson 55 1980 with short(15 inch) rigg.
Since I am looking for some more power can I mount a 70 hp Johnson on the 55 hp rigg?
