Welcome Ty!

Your post is best suited for the Outboard Non-Repair Discussion forum. I'll move it over there for you.

Well, the engine overhaul should have cost that if it was done by a mechanic.T

Things mean different things to different folks....some would discount the fact that the engine "had" to be rebuilt; course '72 is getting on back there.

Course in your case sounds like the dealer was looking for a good deal from you thinking that you would be happy turning a $500 profit for nothing.

FYI I had a 125 50th edition bought new in '72. Very nice engine.

Friend of mine had a 65 on a 16'Skeeter bass boat he bought new in '72. He could run in the high 30's with it......but couldn't catch me...course my boat was an 18ft trihull and was very heavy and propped for skiing. Don't know what (pitch) prop he was running but it was an OMC SS. In those days they (OMC) had black teflon coated props with brass diffuser rings that sold for like $125 which was a lot of bucks then. SS props hadn't been out very long and they really were hands down better than aluminum.

Mark

well owner of boat was in bass masters since 70's most tour events still labeled on boat. He had enginge rebuilt from ground up. according to his son dad just wanted it to be as new. i've had guys tell me engine used is about 50 dollars a hp here but not sure looking at prices here. thanks for your input. I think i'm going to keep boat and look around for newer boat no motor for ski fish.

well invader was a well built boat. and the johnson seahorse outboards were a good motor. yours is a hydroelectric shift in the lower unit.it uses electric solenoids to push hydraulic fluid to make it shift.always make sure you use the type c oil in the lower unit, never use hiviscosity gear oil.the type c oil is much like tranny fluid.
javsam
