Re: johnson 60 VRO

welcome to iboats. post model #, we can tell you age. have you check spark, and compression on all cylinders? when were the carbs last cleaned, and rebuilt. what are you idle rpms, in the water and in gear. will it start easier on muffs than in the water?

Re: johnson 60 VRO

Model code = BJ60ELCEA, and the serial code = B07969730, with the spark plugs there are three and i will replace but i need to now the age of engine befor this so i can get the correct size as i think they might be wrong at the moment, compresion though all seems to be fine but the midle socet at first didnt seem to compress but does now, at idle speed is around 2000rpm and at full speed it 6000rpm. when the boat is in water it starts well at first but when the boat is out the engine runs extreamly well,
thanks for your help

That would be a 1989 model, the first year of the 56cid 60hp three cylinder. I think the B at the first indicates it was made in Belgium.

Re: johnson 60 VRO

Do you have a tach in the boat, if so what is the idle speed? Mine idles just over 1000 rpm out of the water on muffs. If the idle is too low they will stall when put in gear. What exactly are you saying about the compression on the middle cylinder? When you say it idles at 2000rpms, is that dead idle with the warmup lever down. You need to make sure it's firing on all 3 cylinders, they don't run well on 2. the idle circuit might be plugged up on one carb making it run on 2 at idle. You need to give us more specific info, we'll be glad to help, but you're our eyes, ears and hands when trying to diagnose problems over the net. If you put your location in your profile, someone might be close by that could help you.
