I have a Johnson 55hp. model trl-10r s/n J2979600. The small brass rod connecting the upper and lower shift solenoids broke (right at the beginning of the threaded portion).I need help in locating new solenoids or suggestions for repair. Any one know how to separate this type of unit? I have another set, but can't figure how to get them apart to replace the rod. Any help is appreciated.

Dudley... Unfortunately, those items don't come apart. I checked the remainder of my stock to see if I might have a unit left over but no such luck. FYI, The solenoid assy has a OMC part number of #580776 but has been unavailable since 1990. At that time, it had a list price of $164.30. Hopefully you'll be able to find a good used one. Wish you luck.

Thanks Joe for a speedy response. What is the procedure for checking the solenoids? Do you happen to know where I could start checking for replacements? Thanks again Joe for the help.

Will (needing to be on the water)
