Johnson 50hp leaking fuel

I'm new to boating and have a boat with a Johnson 50hp, 2cyl, 2 stroke engine.<br /><br />The engine will start, but a lot of fuel spills out into the water as the engine is running. <br /><br />I have removed the carbs and plan to take a look inside. The boat sat for a season without use.<br /><br />I have minimal experience with small 4 stroke engine carbs. Is a two stroke carb similar?

Howdy Mustang,<br /><br />Yes, there are many similarities between small 4 stroke carbs and small 2 stroke carbs.<br /><br />You may have a sticking float, but I would check all fuel lines and the fuel pump as well.<br /><br />I recommend a manual. <br /><br />Good luck.

Thanks JB<br /><br />I'm going out to dismantle the carbs now. I ordered a manual, and the UPS man just showed up with it.<br /><br />This board is busy. I just checked back and had to go to page 4 to find your reply.<br /><br />I'll let you know how it goes.

Everything looked good inside the carbs. I think that someone must have recently did some work to them. The manual shows the difference between the original bowl gaskets, and the rebuild kit gaskets. They have the rebuild kit gaskets.<br /><br />Any other cause for fuel leaking out while running? Could it be an ignition problem? Will this engine idle with one cylinder firing and the other not?

pumpthe bulb if it doesent git tight then you have a float valve not seating or the diafram in the fuelpump has a hole in it that will cause excess fuel to go in to the enguin block. yes it will run on 1 cylinder . it will rev up but willnot plain off on 1 cylinder
