I was running my johnson 50 on muffs today and I noticed oil escaping from the joint where the lower unit attaches. I've never had this happen before and am wondering what has caused this now. I'm a real newby when it comes to working on outboards so would appreciate any help I can get on this. Here are a couple of pics and a short video of it running that hopefully show what I am talking about.

The smears on the lower unit just happened today when I ran my finger along the joint.

doesnt look like anything to worry about.....just the classic unburnt fuel oil mix finding the easiest escape route. but have a look at the gear oil anyway. ( and dont forget to replace the washers/orings on the fill drain plugs).

Looks normal, don't worry about it.
