johnson 4r71d smoking head?

Got motor running. After about a minute of running it starts smoking pretty good. The smoke is coming from head. Should I replace head gasket?

Is it hot? Might be a bad impeller. I wouldn't run much unless you can see a fine mist/spray coming out of the exhaust housing (on the back- just above the water line)

Fix water pump/cooling system then re check the compression. You might need a head gasket afterwards.
