Johnson 48hp spl. shaft lengths

A buddy told me that he was going to look at a late 80s Johnson 48hp spl. 15" shaft, & he wanted my opinion. My response was, "I didn't know they came with a 15" shaft." Obviously my opinion isn't worth a thing but I figured that I'd ask those in the know. Thank you in advance

Yep they were availiable, motors below a certain hp can still be had in short shaft as there are a lot of older watercraft being restored that still use the 15" leg.
Motors are getting harder to find in short shaft as most all boat mfg in the last 10 or so years have gone to a long shaft except for car toppers.

Thanks Chief, I thought that I'd thanked you, but it never made it out of cyber-land. So, once again I thank you sir. I did see an Ever-rude 48hp w/15" leg (I was prepared to ask this gentleman a number of questions, but found he knew very little about it,- his father died & it had been his)
