Hi im new here on this forum and i just thought this will be a great place to get help and learn more. im not computer smart or internet type person but learning.
Anyhow i have a johnson 48 SPL that i dont know the year it was made and all i can find on the back of the motor was this model number # HJ48ESLEOS Serial # G-03920330 and made in the USA. I cant even find no parts or anything because when i try and search the model number comes up as nothing??? If anyone could please help me that would be really great.
If this helps the motor is white and black lettering ( JOHNSON) and red ( 48 spl) It has 2 spark plugs, 2 stroke, the coil is a dual coil? has 2 spark plug wires and 2 carbs. Im trying to list all that would or might be useful in helping me.
Im also having a problem with my motor, it was running okay but rough at idle and could never stay idleing smooth, i would always have to rev it up high to keep it running. Then someone came along and brought to my attention that i was mixing the gas and oil wrong, I was putting 1 quart of oil to 5 gallons of gas! Yes now i know it was wrong because the dealer told me it was suppose to be 50-1 mixture. So i drained the gas and dried out the tank. I put new gas 12 gallons to 1 quart of oil.
Now it runs smooth and idles good, but now my problem is when im cruising it will kind make a pop sound then slowly shut off. i would keep trying to start it but it wont start. Until after like a day i try and go out there and start her to see if i could fix the problem and she starts right up again. so i again try and take her out but she does the same thing not even being in the water 15 mintues.
i put new plugs and wires. also a new coil. does anyone know also what it could be??? gas mixture cause this to happen? i felt the water where it squirts out and its warm so i dont think it is over heating???
