Just rebuilt a Johnson 40HP VRO (PT/T) was running well following rebuild. It stood for about 6 years and I went to get it going the other day. Cleaned carbs, checked comp (150psi both) and started it up. Started fine and ran for 5mins until overheat alarm came on. It was pumping water at the time. Stopped it to check block and it was cool. Went to start it again and it WILL not start no matter what I do. Spark appears to be good on both. Any suggestions of where to start appreciated.

Re: Johnson 40HP VRO will not start

Found the problem there was a makeshift flywheel keyway that had sheared. Replaced it with a rough one I made and it ran great but sheared again. Where can I get a new one from and what is the correct way to torque the flywheel nut and what do I torque it too. I think the carbs to need a rebuild there is fuel collecting in the back of them and fuel spraying out of where I would expect the idle adjust screw to be on some older carbs. Any thoughts.
Thanks
