Johnson 40hp electric shift conversion from a 33hp?? Will it fit and work?

I've got the 1970 electric shift johnson on the boat now, and hopefully everything is ironed out and it's ready to go.

But, I was told by several to have another motor ready to go because the shift solenoids aren't real reliable.

So I've got 2 1968 Johnson 33hp engines that are complete. One is complete but low compression. The other is a complete motor, just in pieces.

Will the 33hp lower unit swap onto the 40hp and what all would I have to change out to make it work?

Or will the extension at least work so I can make my motor a long shaft, I feel it would work just a little better. I have the extension and the driveshaft for the 33hp engines. Will that at least work on the 40?

Sorry, neither the 33hp lower units nor extension parts will fit a 40.

Don't be listening to 90% of those experts that bad-mouth the electric shift. Besides, there are no solenoids in it. There goes their credibility.

So where can I find the extension piece to make my 40 a long shaft? I've been tinkering with this motor and it runs excellent, just a few details to iron out as to why it fired up with the magnetos grounded out?

I'm still wondering as to how well the stream is supposed to be shooting out? I fired it up earlier and it started a little mist within a few seconds and then the spurts like it's been doing since day one. Where it's a pretty steady stream that pulses and breaks with the exhaust.
