I just joined this site and I hope someone can help. I have a 1992 remote start 30 HP 1992 Johnson OB. It would not take the punch from idle and would kill the engine. Then it would not start easy. So I rebuilt the carb, replaced fuel pump, plugs etc. Now it won't start without primer switched to emergency start. Fuel is getting to the carb, I checked all hoses etc. I even opened carb again. If you put your hand over carb inlet and crank, gas will hit your hand it will start for 10 seconds. HELP!! Could carb be toasted?
Thanks a Bunch! Rick

Re: Johnson 30 HP Problems

I've never seen a toasted carb, but I do think that is where your problem lyes. Normally when it won't take the punch from idle it is running lean. Also check the timing advance plate to be sure it is moving properly.
