Re: johnson 2hp portable

You didn't say if it was fresh or saltwater it was submerged in.

If it was salt water, hose the entire motor off with lots of fresh water and get it to a shop immediately!
Or if you are handy.... Drain the carb and fuel tank. Remove the spark plugs and face the motor spark plug side down. Slowly pull the motor through to allow the water to escape. Now turn the motor right side up and pour a small amount of marvel mystery oil into the cylinders. Again slowly pull the motor through to allow the oil to lubricate the cylinders. Replace the fuel filter. With the drain open on the carb pump fresh fuel through the carb... continue until there is no sign of water. Sometimes you can spray the electronics with contact cleaner and luck out... or you may have to remove the flywheel and dry everything out. Quick test... install the plugs in the wires and pull the motro through and check for spark. If there is spark, reinstall the spark plugs and the drain in the carb and attempt to start it.

Good Luck

it was fresh water, another question...do you think the fact we tried to start it right away after damaged anything?

It is possible but not likely. Follow the instructions from sparkplug removal and on down. Is the fuel tank built into the motor or is it a remote tank?

Keep in mind that water is heavier than gas and will settle to the bottom of the tank. Empty it and flush it out good.

and your welcome
