Johnson 25 hp gearbox options???

Hi,
Just wanted to know if i can fit a 35 HP gearbox from 81 model johnson to a
'79 model johnson 25 hp
i am not sure of which box was orignally on the 25hp if it was a through hub or not is there a way to tell by the serial number?

No - the 35 hp was a through-hub exhaust, while the 25 exhausts out the AV plate. The midsection bolt patterns are different...

Are there any other boxes that will match up for example the 15-20 hp boxes ?

I have looked around and found a list or lower units that interchange for bigger models does anyone have a list for 35 hp and below ?
