JOHNSON 200 1990 CUTS OFF WHEN I PUT IN GEAR

HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE. RUNS FINE AT IDLE, VRO IS NOW 50-1, BUT WHEN I PUT IT IN GEAR THE ENGINE CUTS OFF. HOWEVER IF I CAN GET IT IN GEAR THE ENGINE BOGGS DOWN WITH NO POWER AND CUTS OFF.<br />ANY IDEAS?

there are two reasons for this that come to mind, first i would check and make sure the lower unit is in good working order, if that is not the problem, this motor has a shift interrupt switch on the bottom of the shift arm and kills the motor for a instant when it is shifted to check to see is that is the problem, disconnect the black and yellow wire leading from the shifter to the power pack on top of the motor and try again. <br /><br />good luck
