Johnson 2.5 questions

Hi folks,

I have a Johnson 2.5HP Model J3RCCM (Belgian) S/N B7624275 that I intend to use as a trolling/backup motor on a 15' skiff. I've ordered a water pump repair kit and while looking things over, I don't see any indication of a telltale outlet for the cooling system....am I missing something obvious?

I would be interested in links to online Owner's, Parts and Repair Manuals if available. Also, is there a database that would show when the motor was made by cross referencing the serial number?

I would also be interested in feedback about this motor regarding performance, durability etc..... seems like a well made little motor with pretty good punch for the size and weight.

Thanks,

John

Re: Johnson 2.5 questions

Thanks for the link to the parts schematic, that's a big help. Yes, it is direct drive and rotates 360. I can see that you might not want water from the telltale peeing into the boat when you rotate 180 for reverse.

I guess you just depend on good impeller maintenance and good luck to keep it running cool.

Thanks,

John

Stick your hand behind the exhaust ports in the back of the exhaust housing, if water is misting out, the pump is working.

Thanks! Looks like there are 2 exhaust/water outlets...I found this on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/25113985209...AX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_586wt_1397

One page of the owner's manual shows the main exhaust/water outlet just above the prop and an "exhaust relief" half way up the leg.

With direct drive, I'll be REAL CAREFUL sticking my hand down there to check!

Thanks,

John
