These are the plastic top and fuel bowl models. Cleaned carb but from previous experience with these (not good with similiar problem) I almost felt the carb cleaning would not get the carb to run right. It starts easy with choke out but will only keep running with choke out. You can use the choke as a kind of throttle. But then it will die when you let go of choke. Checked for air leaks, good compression and plugs etc.

Maybe it is not a carburetor problem.----Do some orderly trouble shooting.----Same procedure as all other motors.

Don't think raceone properly read the post by thatone. Well, boobie (like that name)… I made the mistake of thinking I cleaned that silly small black rubber hose that the idle circuit must be on. I just did a spray carb cleaner but a really good job except for that black hose. I think I remember reading somewhere about that hose a long time ago. IT feeds up to the main jet. IT defintly had some gunk in there. I did a soaking of the carb in carb cleaned but I think I had already found the problem. IT now runs like new. So, anyway, at least this is some good info for anyone with those plastic top and bottom carbs. sheeeech!!!!

I have a couple of mid-'80s and a '90 -- '90 with the plastic top. Think you found the issue with yours, but with all three of mine I find that cold starting is smoothest if I open the idle air mix about 1/4 turn or so, then reset to original leaner mix for running after it warms up. I guess choking or half-choking would serve the same purpose.
