Hi, I am just after a bit of know how on how to change the impeller on my engine. It is a Johnson 25HP 1987 (BJ25BALCUR),
Basically When i remove the bottom part to get the the old impeller. Does it mean I have to undo any gear connections? etc. And how easy is it?, is there anything else which could cause a problem or an unwanted obstruction.
Any help would be deeply appreciated, thanks, john

one the side of the leg is a 1 inch x 2 inch plater with 2 screws, remove that cover, you will find the shift rod connector. remove the bottom bolt, then remove the 5 bolts holding the lower unit to the leg.

found correct diagram. remove the slotted plate just above propeller. you will find a compression fitting, disconnect this fitting, ONLY TURNING THE TOP NUT, if you turn lower, it will make you lower unit out of adjustment. slide top nut up, you will find a black ferrel, it is cut on one side, slide it off, then slide nut off. remove the 4 bolts holding the lower unit to mid section.

Thanks very much I will give it a go. I am glad that I wont need to root about under the carb, like some motors.

everything back together, and seems to be linked up ok. took it for a spin and bloody thing cuts out when attempting to give it some throttle. didnt do this before. Could this be muck in the fuel? it revs up ok when its in neutral.
