Have twin Johnson 150's 1987 with VRO system. Model # J150TLCUR ser# R7495931 & #21 Very very low hours but not well maintained.

First time out this season long steady alarm on starboard motor after 5 minutes underway (just reached 3000rpm). Water pump appeared ok (about equal pee stream to other motor). The 1" clear plastic piece on the oil line just before the vro pump was full of oil. Ball was still hard. I have spotted a slight fuel leak (very slow drip) on the lowest horizontal line at the bottom of the carburetor. Could this cause a fuel alarm? Also the trouble motor has oily film all over the motor including puddles of fuel/oil on top of carburetors, and the twin motor is clean as new inside. Kind of a novice here so I hope this was understandable. Thank you.

Re: Johnson 1987 150 Overheat/fuel Alarm

Conflicting information re: 1987 Johnson 150
The Clymer manual says that the V6 VRO models used the horn for the fuel warning system only up until 1986.
My 1987 OMC owners manual says that the continuous horn is for both overheat AND fuel.
If the '87 has no fuel restriction horn it would seem to really narrow down the problem for me. However, I'm inclined to go with OMC book. Anyone know for sure?
