Johnson 1985 6 HP- gearbox

Hello All,<br />Anyone have any tips or tricks to getting the prop shaft out?<br />I am trying to get at the gearbox- 2 bolts holding a housing under the prop and supposedly the plate should pry off- it doesnt, of course!<br /><br />Tapping and prying have only damaged the housing as its a soft metal.<br /><br />Any thoughts???<br /><br />Jason

Sometimes heat,sometimes a knife blade at the parting joint.Tap gently and wear glasses.Only that housing and reverse gear will come out.OH....fluid too. DHP

Put the propshaft horizontally in a vice. With a soft hammer (rubber or plastic) tap the skeg of the housing in the other direction. The propshaft should pull out with the rear carrier and reverse gear...<br />- Scott
