Just bought the engine and took it out once. It was hard to get started and would not idle. It ran great at high and lower speeds but when it goes to idle it cuts out. Any thoughts?
I did change the plugs and fuel filter and ran it with new gas and seemed to get closer to an idle but not 100%. I also noticed that when I added the new fuel and primed the pump ( a few too many times!) that fuel came out of the bottom / exhaust, is that normal?
Also, how do you flush the engine after use in saltwater?
Any input would be appreciated.

If you are see'ing raw fuel when pumping the primer bulb, you probably have a leaking needle, and seat in the carb. That would also cause a poor idle, or stall problem.

Possibly burst fuel pump diaphram too. Easy to check for that condition, just unbolt the fuel pump from the engine, pump up the primer bulb and note if any fuel comes out the little hole on the back of the pump which leads into the crankcase.
