I need a service manual picture of how the spring is to fit into the gear that holds the starter cord. The end of my spring broke, and I do not know how to rewind it. I can reshape the end to fit into the notch in the bottom of the gear, but do I have to turn this gear to rewind the spring??? The spring itself never came out of the spring holding "pan". I do know from some one else the length of the starter cord which also needs to be replaced. I need a picture of which way the spring coils in the pan and whether or not it has to be rewound..Also, the brass grommet the starter cord passes through is worn through (frayed the starter cord) and this also needs to be replaced... can't get any local help!

you need a new spring dont try shaping you will hurt your eyes and it will not work. Place the new spring in the holder, then with the white thing wrap the new line around the it place the white tbe back on top of the spring and install, when you pull the cord, the white tube will ingage thespring and spin it so when you let go it rewinds the spring, its regular starter rope, just go to a hardware store and into the lawn Mower section they have kits that have the handle and rope.

Howdy, Fishnfli.

Sloopy gives good advice. New spring, new rope.

I don't know about the rope guide. What year is your engine? It may be a replacement part, or you may need to make one out of new brass tubing.

Good luck. :)
