Outboard Engine - Johnson 150 V6 1988
When sqeezing the engine primer bulb-
I have a little gasoline comming out of the VRO pump directly above the gasoline input line. The gas comes out on from a little round disc at the top of the VRO pump. The engine runs good but is a little smokey. Does this effect the operation of the pump. I think it's only when I am sqeezing the primer bulb. I haven't checked to see is it leaks when the engine is running.
Does the leak let in air into the mix?

Is there a cheaper alternative to paying $320 for a new one.

Great article I made a copy of the picture diagram to help with the repairs.
The leak is right under the words Fuel Piston Diaphragm, under the gm in diaphragm. Thats the round disk the gas is coming out of.

I have a 1990 50 hp Johnson and am reconnecting the VRO, is there supposed to be a primer bulb on the oil tank similar to the fuel tank? If so can I use a regular fuel bulb?

Thanks

there is a primer bulb and it is not the same as the gasoline primer. You can buy complete tanks (with lines and bulbs) or hose kits easily on ebay. If you buy the complete tank set up, make sure it's from the same era as your engine so the alarm signals are compatable. I think they changed that in 1996 or so. But, simplest is just to replace the oil line and bulb - I think that is pretty generic across all VRO/OMS years.

It's also important to use good hose clamps specific for the purpose as air leaks are your enemy.
