New here, just been sitting back and reading. What I have is a 1983 Johnson 115, Model# J115TLCTE Serial # J5842376. What I need to know is what is the difference between a 115 and 140? From what I read the bore and stroke are the same, the power packs are the same along with pistons being the same part number. So where do you get the exra horsepower on the 140?

Re: Johnson 115

In 1983 the difference is port timing and the 140 has tuned exhaust but the tuner in the mid section is the same. Because of the port timing it has larger carbs. The heads are slightly different too.

They both have the same bore, stroke, ignition, intake, mid section and gearcase, including gear ratio.

The answer to your next question -- yes, you can but it won't do what you think it will.
