For the moderator... Where are Johnson/Evinude questions? I presume this just was an error bringing over the editing post to throw me but thought you'd want to know... Gary

Fernando,
Yes, you can install a tach with your engine. There should be a three wire receptical on your remote control. If you install a Teleflex Tachometer, it may come with a cable with a plug that plugs into the receptical. If the cable doesn't come with the tach, it's Teleflex part nr.IH4767.

g'luck & c/6
Hooty

Guvner...this is the Johnson/Evinrude question forum. There was no mistake in moving the post by Mod1. If you look at the Outboard General Discussion area, you will see the difference. There was no intention of "throwing you off".

Mod2.

I thought that is what the plug was for in the remote control. Does anyone have the connection hookup schematic to use it? Is the plug available to buy alone?

Thanks... Gary

Guvner,
its about a 15 minute job. Check out www.surplusunlimited.com for $30.00 OMC tachs.........you will prolly have to order the hookup....mine was about $15....the bombardier part number is 0174732.....this is the 3pin version for early 80's.

Jamar,

Thanks for the link... Boy could I have saved some money on my rectifier... Most were $29 plus shipping. I just bought one local for $12 more... This place had the same thing for $21... Wow.. I might have waited... Didn't find the OMC Tachometer plug. In fact their search wouldn't pull up either an OMC or Evinrude Tachometer. Didn't see anything listed under Teleflex tachometers that would indicate any plugs being available. If you know where to look it would be appreciated. My tach on my pontoon boat has always acted flaky so if I could find that harness I'd just hook it up there... Too cold to swim under the boat and rewire...

Thanks... Gary

I bought mine a while back, early spring or so, perhaps there are out of stock on the tach.....the hookup i had to order from a local dealer from bombardier.....sorry for being unclear. I always check that website first no matter what i need...as the name implies it is surplus so they dont always have everything, could be they bought old omc stock and sold all the tachs.

I double checked the website....mine was located under /guages/omc guages....just as you discovered they arent shown. But all the others were in the same series (ie speedo, fuel, temp, trim).......the omc tach item # was 1470..might be worth giving them a call. Even if they dont have the omc tach for 30 bucks they surely have some others that will hook up and work just maybe not as cheap, should still be cheaper than anywhere else, except maybe ebay.

I am not sure how "old" your control box is.....even on newer motors(80's and up) there is an old style(3pin) and new style(4pin)....regardless the pin connector is just under the ignition switch and all you have to do is push the wiring harness plug onto that connector then wire the other end up to your tach. It is possible you have a much older control box that doesnt have this. I am really not sure about anything but the mid 80's omc 3 pin conrol boxes. Maybe someone else can help you if that is not what you have.

If you control box is of the same generation as the 1983 115 motor, it should be a 3pin, and should be located under the igniton switch.
