I have a 2004 Johnson 115, V4, 2 stroke, carb model, Optical Ignition System (OIS), one head went up to 150 degrees at 3,500 RPM and the auto shut off sounded the alarm, gave me the hot light and slow down the engine. At the momet, one head (right) was at a 125 and the other (left) at 150 degrees.

Took both thermostats out and came back, both heads a 100.

I replaced both thermostats a while ago and now I see that the ones that came from factory are marked H1C and the replacements read P1O.

What should be the working temperature for this engine?

Thanks,

Kawama

Re: Johnson 115 operating temperature

Normally thermostats open at 140*F, and allow temps to be 20-30*F higher. Not sure why your overheat tripped at 150*F.
