I've had real good luck with Dupont Emron over Corlar epoxy primer..you won't have any problems with paint peeling off. I use a flexative in the Emron.

Re: Johno 3 Hp paint questions

You probably already know this, but what the hey.

I repainted my (jet) lower unit last summer. I sanded all unsound paint off it down to bare, shiny aluminum and roughed up the rest. I removed all dust, grease, etc. with some solvent that I got at the paint store. I then primed the whole thing with a couple coats of the green aluminum primer. My understanding is that this priming has to be done ASAP onto the bare metal to avoid any oxidation. That's what I did - immediately primed. I then coated with several thin coats of the OMC white paint that I bought at the dealer. I looked at the can and it is just spray enamel. It turned out fine, although doesn't exactly match the white on the rest of the motor. I think I could have come closer with stock cans of white spray paint.

One year running in freshwater, silty water and salt water and there is no evidence of the paint coming off.

Good luck with your project. I'm about to start on making my old 74 Merc kicker look like new, if I can find some decals.
