I finally had time to vist my repairman,a new fix for the water pump shaft is put a water pump on the front of motor,get water through bottom of boat, like inboards do,cut center out of old water pump so you can service the seals on upper drive shaft,than JB weld the water pump shaft to the upper shaft. "warning" it must be installed to lower drive before JB weld hardens, for the shaft alignment, or your bearings are history.remember this isn't proven long term.What did I do? I decided to put in new shafts,I'm determined to find something to stop the water from washing the grease out of the splines.I'm a stubborn mule! I hope this helps
