Joe reeves timing procedure problem

I was using joes procedure in the secret notes. The problem I've found is that when I put the throttle to wide open the engine will not crank. Neutral safety switch I'm guessing, is there a way to bypass or am I missing something obvious?

Jump the starter on the motor with a switch... I used a piece of wire to do it

Or use a remote starter switch across the small terminals on the solenoid.
