Joe Reeves Tach test results questions...

The issue is the tach intermittently working, cutting in and out. I've done a myriad of tests and everything is good except the send for the tach. At the tach, testing the AC voltage on the send I get ~5.5v, but it will cut in and out. I just did the Joe Reeves test where I connect the send at the terminal on the engine to the yellow/gray wire. The tach "sort of" works, but it's jumpy and if I give power to things on the boat (horn, lights, etc), it causes the tach to jump up in RPMs. Is this normal when testing this way? If so, then it would seem to I need to replace the regulator/rectifier, but if not, I would imagine I could have any number of other wiring issues.

Thanks for any help.

So no one knows if the tach being a bit jumpy when using this method to test is normal or not? Maybe a sign the stator is going or flywheel magnets are damaged? I'd love to avoid to taking it into the shop and do the work myself.
