Re: Jill Carroll Freed in Iraq

Sounds like they are speculating that the US forces were getting too close to the hostage takers for comfort so they decided to let her go free. Press Conference is scheduled for 8AM Eastern Time.

Don't mean to sound flipant. I'm glad she's OK. One of the facts overlooked in this ordeal is she went out to an area where most westerner's go only when accompanied by a security detail. She'e young, perhaps she didn't think about it, or like so many young people, thought she knew better. Only she can answer that. But, she went without security, only a translator and a driver.

Would it have mattered? Who knows. The fact remains she ignored the potential danger and it came back to bite her. Thank God, she's alive.

12'er did and I quote;
Trust me on that. That is my fervent opinion. She is, after all, a "journalist". Every time one of these journalists get "abducted", they are "released" --- then they write a book. Or they go on Oprah and tell their story of being "held by misguided gentlemen, who only wanted to convey their feelings for their comrads in American custody" or "I got to know my captors on a personal level", or some such rot. My money is on the chance that she already knew them!

We'll be bombarded with sales pitches hawking their new book, or hyping their movie.

I for one, am not being fooled again.
I'll graciously eat my words (and my hat) if i am wrong -- but i won't be.

I have been waiting for this day since after reading 12er's note above. I worried that I was previously naive and agreed that his spin was plausible. Now, I am in . . . hook, line and sinker . . .

Yep, I believe 12'er nailed it. Did you hear her talking about how well she was treated, etc. Sounded like 12'er had the inside scoop on the whole thing. Hmmmm, 12'er, is there something you ain't telling us? :D
