OK last yr we had a Jhonson 40 Long on our little Sport lido fiberglass boat. I kow its was the wrong setup. Long shaft on a short shaft boat. It did 25-27 mph (gps) I could "feel" the shaft drag.

This yr i bought a 30 hp evinrude big twin short shaft. Havent ran it yet i hope it works ! It does look better on the boat than the 40 did. Pulls over like a pig. :p

SO my questions would be

1 Should i expext to gain anything ion speed ? Its lighter & has the right shaft length.

2 Would we be able to tube behind it ?

3 How do i go about puting a starter on it or can i ?

THanks everyone Its been a while since i was here.

1. Hard to say. It is the proper length, but less horsepower. ONly you can tell---by trying it.

2. Of course

3. Is that a 1956 30hp you have? Yes you can put a starter on it. To do it the factory way would be expensive. But people jury rig starters on them all the time. You need a starter and mounting bracket and a flywheel with the ring gear. Beyond that, use your imagination and available parts.

Yea i figured i would have to just try it.

I was glad you said we should be able to tube behind it ! THats the whole point of having it in our lake. The I/o is for the bigger lakes and more people.

Yes its a 56' 30 hp. Sounds good to me i guess ill have to jerry rig it. Thanks for the info.
